Dave ...
The 1911 Census for my GGFather, age 53, says 'Blacksmith' and 'Motor Cranks' (we think he was previously working as a Blacksmith Foreman at the Vulcan Works, Newton-le-willows), and for his son, age 26, 'Iron Turner' and 'Gun Shells'. The address is Woolley Wood Road, Wincobank, and I'm trying to guess their likely employers. Presumably the proximity of home to work was less important by then, due to improvements in public transport ? Any suggestions much appreciated. Dave. Also, I recall seeing something about a tram terminus on Vulcan Road, so I'll explore further. Dave.
