DaveH
I've seen those. I thought they were just a new type of satellite receiver. You're going to tell me they're not I suppose. If Stuart knows what they are for then are probably something to do with telephone / mobile telephone technology rather than broadcast signals. Given the size of the dish and aeriel, - smaller than a standard satellite sky TV dish, I would deduce that they are designed to work at very high frequencies (short wavelengths) into the GHz range. The answer is in the air. But not any more. I also know. here's another http://maps.google.c...115.37,,2,-6.36 I took mine down and kept the brackets for my TV aerial - much better design than normal TV aerial brackets. It appeared to me at the time that the take-up would have to be pretty high if the system was to pay it's way. Incidently what was the name of the "other" satellite system, the one that used "Squaerials". I know someone out in Derbyshire who had one installed about a week before they pulled the plug on the system. HD

There's been one on the chimney of the house opposite for years. When the current owners moved in they had some work done on the roof, and the contractor tried to take it down but gave up. And no, I can't remember the name either! (Courtesy of Street View)

DaveH
Until DaveH tells us the details here is the Wikipedia Answer What a mate Stuart is. He sets me a challenge to do a post on BSB and then before I have chance to reply he answers his own challenge for me to save me a job. I don't need to bother now In any case I have never had SKY, BSB or any other satellite system weather it used a dish, an aeriel or a squareial
DaveH
Talk of communications brings this to mind. 1/ Does anyone know why Bluetooth technology is so named ? 2/ What relationship does it bear to a forum member ? Bluetooth was the nickname of a medieval King of Denmark (Harold I I think) who united the tribes of his country to a common language and standards. Bluetooth technology is so called because it unites a number of wireless protocols to a common standard allowing devices with different systems to communicate with each other and transfer data. No idea which forum member the name may be linked to, is it Richard? It usually is!

Don't know which one of them is chas and which is dave but we need to stop shaving for a week or so first, one of us on banjo and the other on a piano lined up with pint pots on the top.
