jimmydunneclone
I lived on Abbey Lane until 1968 when I was 5 and remember being taken to a sweet shop at the Chesterfield Rd end of Abbey Lane.It may have been as far as where The KFC is now.I can't find any photos of this anywhere;it's been bugging me for years.Anyone help please? Ellesse
I'm pretty sure that my sister in law's parents owned that shop. It was on the right hand side opposite the Big Tree pub, if that's the one you're thinking about. I'll ask her if she's any photo's next time I see her. Ellesse
I'm confused now Their name was Howard and I'm sure the shop was next to a chip shop, somewhere near the Big Tree. Haven't been able to ask my sister in law yet, but it's intriguing me now.

jmdee
If memory serves, during the 50's this shop had all kinds of mobile displays in the window, mainly consisting of steel balls, lifted by motors and pulleys running around on wire tracks, very elaborate and fascinating.
