What's with the PipPipPip that's appeared in our profiles ?

Have we all been promoted to the rank of army captain (three pips) ?

Is it all part of Liam Fox's defence cuts, has he put us all on the army reserve, unpaid ?

We await the answer.

On the L.H. side under PROSHEFFIELDER it says PipPipPip.

Help is it only me that's been conscripted ?

Ah

I see them now

We all seem to have 3, haven't they always been there?

Admin has 3 so it can't be all bad, newer members with only a few posts seem to have 2

Nothing to worry about, but watch out for a shilling in the bottom of the next pint you have

Just thought we should show what a Shilling looked like for our younger members.

When I was very young my granddad showed me that there were 2 dates on a shilling coin.

Anybody remember where ?

Why would there be a Shilling in your pint ? and why a glass bottom in your tankard ?

[i know, others may not]

And I know as well. I always use a glass anyway, I haven't got good sea-legs.

Doesn't anyone know where/what the other date is ??

I thought it was a well known bit of trivia (in the olden days)

Is it 1771.?

The plot thickens, while nobody was looking PiPPiPPiP has morphed into three pips i.e. ***

Will I be in future known as Captain Hilldweller and when precisely did I get my commission ? Will I be expected to shop at G. D. Golding (military tailors to HM The Queen) and not at Primark ?

P.S. Can I expect promotion to Major any time soon ?

I think the pips have always been there.

Originally (before the site upgrade earlier this year)

* = newbie

** = member

*** = advanced member

but now I think the expressions used are

* = newbie

** = Sheffielder

*** = Pro - Sheffielder

The number of pips (*) and the designation seems to be based solely on the number of posts made.

Before the upgrade this was

* = newbie Less than 10 posts

** = member 10 to 29 posts

*** = advanced member 30 or more posts

Since the upgrade I think these numbers have been modified
