Guest Maddie
I can remember my grandad taking me into Sheffield city center in the early 70's to tell me about " Vulcan", he told me that at night when no-one is looking he climbs down to walk around the city checking everything is ok. After all these years I still look up at him and remember the tale I was told - Why I was told that tale I have no idea Was anyone else told tales of Vulcan ?? Guest plain talker
Vulcan is supposed to be the "protector" of our fair city (I can't really say "Patron Saint", can I :: ) something to do with our city's history of steel and cutlery, and Vulcan was the roman equivalent of Thor (who appears with vulcan on our coat of arms), he was the Blacksmith to the gods. Vulcan... dating back to Roman times. He harnessed fire and worked the forge for the good of mankind. Also a trademark of Thomas Ellin & Company, cutlery manufacturer. Ruben's interpretation A 'Vulcan' knife from the early 20th cent with ivory scales.
