RichardB
The Bankrupts Directory Being a complete register of all the bankrupts with their residences, trades and dates when they appeared in the London Gazette from December 1820 to April 1843. By George Elwick (1843) ---------------------------------- Extract of Sheffield related data. ----------------------------------------- I think this is one of the most important documents (other than single topic posts like War Dead and Pubs) I've seen on this site. Most of it predates the Census records, and, assuming these people were adults (because they were trading) gives an excellent cross section of Sheffield from around 1810-1843. It might be interesting to do a breakdown by Trade to see if a particular Trade suffered at a specific time, e.g. there are plenty of Merchants listed here. It's taken about a week to get it to this state; worth further input to put more detail against each record e.g. a Street address and earlier/later entries for each individual in Trade Directories (where we can find them). (Earlier "Bankrupts" post has been deleted).
