Does anyone have any idea of the location of Brick Gardens on Meadowhead (1871 Census) ?

That's a new location to me.

Have you tried looking at pages either side of the entry you have found, you can normally get a feel for the route the enumerator took.

If you don't have access to the 1871 census, post further details here and someone with access to Ancestry or similar will have a look.

Would Meadowhead have been part of Sheffield at that date, or in Derbyshire?

My guess is in Derbyshire. My ancestors lived at Norton which at that time was a Derbyshire village.

Norton = "North Town" , go any further north than north town (Norton) and you were in Yorkshire / Sheffield.

Even Harold Armitage's book "Chantrey Land", published in 1910, has this area firmly in Derbyshire.

I have checked the index of this book and there is no mention of Brick gardens.
