Stuart0742
Does anyone have any idea of the location of Brick Gardens on Meadowhead (1871 Census) ? Southside That's a new location to me. Have you tried looking at pages either side of the entry you have found, you can normally get a feel for the route the enumerator took. If you don't have access to the 1871 census, post further details here and someone with access to Ancestry or similar will have a look.
Bayleaf
Would Meadowhead have been part of Sheffield at that date, or in Derbyshire?
DaveH
Would Meadowhead have been part of Sheffield at that date, or in Derbyshire? My guess is in Derbyshire. My ancestors lived at Norton which at that time was a Derbyshire village. Norton = "North Town" , go any further north than north town (Norton) and you were in Yorkshire / Sheffield. Even Harold Armitage's book "Chantrey Land", published in 1910, has this area firmly in Derbyshire. I have checked the index of this book and there is no mention of Brick gardens.
