RichardB
I found these on the 1881 census. The Trafalga Henry Warrington 105 Devonshire Street Could well be, I have nothing at 105 Devonshire Street and no-one at all on Pubs called Warrington, presuming it is Trafalgar and not fashionably abbreviated ! Personally, I'd accept a pat on the back and take that as a new one; might be worth checking the Beerhouse listings though first. Question back for you Ukelele Lady : The nearest match we have address-wise has two distinct entries, are they one and the same place after a rename ? 111 Devonshire Street - David and Goliath (1 keeper) 111 Devonshire Street - Rein Deer (16 keepers) Thank you. I take it back Ukelele Lady, 105 Devonshire Street was a Cocoa/Coffee House, not a Pub ... carries through Henry Warrington, Manager, Sheffield Cafe Co. Ltd., 105 Devonshire Street in 1893. Ltd., 105 Devonshire Street in 1893. I found these 2 posts very interesting. I have mentioned several times in other topics my connection with Cuneo's ice cream. The Cuneo family, nineteenth century Italian immigrants, had a lot of business interests around the City, not just Ice cream. I notice in the first quote that "Old Man Cuneo" (Louis Cuneo, who came to England from Cuneo, via Genoa in the 1850's) is listed as running a pub on Copper Street. the Cuneos also had another place on Copper Street which was run as a gaming den or a snooker hall / billiard room, - or was it in fact this pub? In the second quote a mistaken pub, which was actually a coffee house is given as 105 Division street. Interesting because the shop next door, 107 Division street, was owned by the Cuneo's and was their sweet shop and "Ice Cream Parlour", the first to have an ice cream soda machine and also used as a legalised gambling den because you played with tokens, not money, which could only be exchanged for sweets, ice cream and other stuff in the shop. Without doing a "link fairy" bit both of these stories are in more detail elsewhere on this site.

It appears that in 1911 old man Cuneo was running BOTH a pub and an ice cream parlour then ;-)

ukelele lady
As well as Francis Hulley being at the Roebuck in 1833 , 21 Porter Street he is also down in 1834 as landlord of the Reindeer , 21 Porter Street in 1834. It seems they can't decide if it's Roebuck or Reindeer, wonder what picture they had on the pib sign if any.
