Do not open this link; ignore it please.

Thanks for posting that link Richard, I didn't know how to do it.

I had a pm with this message earlier and deleted it as I had no idea who this person was.

Thanks again and lets hope no-one has been caught by it.

Looks like all forum members have receieved the PM  !

I have received it but Stuart0742 tells me that he didn't

Fortunately I had read this thread at work without logging in and so knew what to expect when I got home and logged on and could therefore delete it immediately ;-)

THANKS FOR THE WARNING RICHARD lol

Now if it has come by PM, surely only members can use PM and there are only around 5000 of them, all known and identifiable, so we should know whodunnit.

However, have we been "hacked" and had this put in to our inboxes by an outsider?

If so, it must be the first time this has happened and you can bet it won't be the last once some pratt has worked out how to do it.

We all need to be very vigilant on this one in watching out for future attacks and putting out warnings like this thread to all members.

As I have previously said, this thread has done me a favour with its advanced warning today.

I've not received it or a PM , can someone explain what it's all about

before I drop a clanger.

Don't feel left out U/L I did not receive it either.

Basically it was a spam PM with a link to another site which tried to tell you your PC was infected with trojans etc.

The new member who sent it was soon suspended by Steve and hopefully no harm will have come to anybody.

As Dave has said we must be vigilant. That applies not just to Sheffield History but to your own emails, texts on your mobile phones etc.

There are people out there who do not have your interest at heart.

If in doubt delete

So how come some of us got the spam message and some didn't?

Did he start sending spam PM to members alphabetically (as they are listed) but never got as far as S or U (Stuart0742, Ukelele Lady) before he was discovered and blocked?

If so he certainly got as far as R because RichardB got one.

But I didn't, so it appears not to be a simple alphabetical thing. Not that I am upset about not receiving it at all.

We at sheffieldhistory are just one of the targets of this ongoing spam,

forums world wide have been subjected to the same attack.

Our attack came from the user/member name 'GooDFriend'

who has many ailiasses.

One of them being .. luckkkyman

if you copy and paste that name into your search bar

it will give you a good idea as to what has been happening.

I had a simular experence on Facebook ( Which i no longer use )

Which used a Friends name and a link to Photo box ended up with

nine trojans which made a right mess of my computer.

So be carefull out there.

It appears then that some people have nothing better to do with their lives than to be professional full time spammers

This is the result of clicking on that link....
