Largest Picture in The World

right so what do you do with the worlds largest picture ? :)

Well that worlds largest picture is a panorama of Dresden.

What we should do is make an even bigger picture (a new world record sized picture then) which is a panorama of Sheffield

Then we could stick it on the side of the Park Hill Flats (currently under restoration) like various other bits of artwork, including the SH logo, have done. lol

They could do a pre WW2 largest picture and then you could have the worlds largest then & now lol

Made up from 1.665 images, that's hell of a lot of photo stitching!

Come come Steve, 1.665 images? You've done more than that! he he

Most of my then & now pictures have the then set at about 1974.

Pre WW2 pictures for a then and now?

I don't think we'll find any of those in our personal collections

Come on Stuart, how old do you think we are?

Just because it's modern times, just because its 2010! lol

Sacre Cour!!!

It's the Sacre Cour

This is one of Paris's most devout religious institutions, much more so than the Notre Dame.

Inside it there are nuns working and security on the door.

Whilst inside there is strictly no noise, no talking, no photography, no wearing of hats.

Despite this, the Sacre Cour is on the top of a very steep hill just up from the Montmatre district.

This is Paris's sexiest, sleaziest most Soho - like district

Not the place a nun would want to go. lol

And now London,

at 80-Gigapixels this is/was the largest photo in the world as of November 2010.

360cities.net/london

jpgmag.com/news/2010/11

Oh dear! Just spent far too long looking at the London image and trying to identify buildings from above, a task made easier than I expected by the epicentre of the image being about a mile from where I used to work in London.

Less impressive in scale, but more relevant to Sheffield is the Paradise Square image, one of several on the 360cities website.

Call for Rolff !

That view of Paradise Square just caused a billous attack MA .. he he

On the London 360 view there is an old style telephone box (K6 ?)

nothing unusual about a K6 in London,

exept this particular telephone box appears to be painted Black, or a very Dark Blue,

I wonder on what Road, Street or other, that this phone box stands on ?

Bit of a needle in a haystack, Steve. Any guidance as to the approximate location?

Of course, I will add a clue MA.

The black box is not in view on the opening page of 'London 80 GP'

It's up a bit, down a bit. down a bit more, right a bit, and right a bit more,

not far away from a bank.

:)

I really must get out more :):blink:

Yes you got it MA, well done!

Your 360 link works for me.

I was just searching (street view)the Charing Cross for the black box,

there are also a few around Piccalilli Circus,

from what I have found out, the black ones are all Non BT.

Ghosts :(

Including ghost buses :blink::o

Although my favourite is a strange train crossing the Thames into Cannon Street Station: the units are 4 and'or 2 coach, but what we have here is a 5-car and a 1-car. :o

I take it from this that the worlds largest picture is actually made up of 1665 smaller images which don't stitch together properly in the first place.

This actually makes it the worlds worst largest picture.

Trust it be a picture of Britain (London) and not a foreign picture!!

Apparently the London picture is made up from 7886 images. The stitching is very good, but the time lag between taking the images clearly leads to strange effects as people and vehicles move. There is part of a crane somewhere on the image, floating above the rooftops :o.

EDIT

Found the flying crane:

I got the 1665 images from Steve's initial post in this topic (post #1).

Having done several of these stitched images as panoramas on this site I can see the problems with the time lag and have had similar results myself even when stitching only 5 images together (I think 11 has been my limit)

So, is London done in 1665 or 7886 images?

The figure of 7886 is taken from the information given below the London image on 360cities, so I assume that is the correct number.

I have seen a stitched image somewhere where the weather changed considerably during the photography, and it resulted in a very strange effect. Can't find it now, of course!
