Last time I was home I spotted a few boxes of these in Hobbycraft at Meadowhell Retail Park. Blimey I didn't think they were still on the go - at £5 a box !anybody else spend hours with these and the Africa Corps, and th e8th Army and the Paras.

Those were the days!

Redgates used to have the complete Airfix range, including all these 1:32 scale army figure sets.

Redgates the best toy shop in Sheffield, - the one that no one ever bothered taking a picture of before it shut for good.

Just about everyone made the 1:72 scale WW2 aircraft, - the Spitfire, Hurricane, Messerschmidtt etc.

But from 1969 their top of the range model was a much larger scale Apollo - Saturn V moon rocket based on Apollo 11. It was big, highly detailed, very expensive (unlike the WW2 aircraft) and hard to find due to limited production.

Owning one of those was like having a Meccanno Set 10 lol

TK Max were selling that range last year, I was tempted, but did not in the end. Did not think I would get a positive response from "Er in doors"

Suprised they are still making it.

The space missions of the 1960's and early 1970's were a major achievement which inspired a whole generation of new science students like us and even today is a pinacle of technological achievement, - being able to send men to the moon. WOW

But currently there is little interest in this achievement and in making any further progress in the future. Certainly younger students are "not bovvered" and most of them just seem to want to carry on the myth that they never actually went to the moon and it was all filmed in a hollywood studio lot :angry:
