Here we go then transit :)

Sheffield History Transport Calendar 2010

A dozen decent quality images needed,

with a good variation on Sheffield's methods of transport from the past

and maybe even the present day.

Stuart0742 has offered to help out on this one,

so to keep things simple,

Stuart and I will make the final disission as to what images/photographs

go on the end product

This link to .. Sheffield History Calendar 2009 will give some idea.

All members suggestions are welcome, My contribution is a winters scene taken in 1952. It shows my great auntie Louisa feeding the poultry in readiness for Christmas. The hen huts in the background are two converted Sheffield trams, they were purchased from the Corporation in the late 1920s. W/E.

There is some more heavy haulage here, although whether the original image is big enough I don't know.

Thanks for the link MA,

Lizzie is well worth taking into consideration,

I don't think we will find a better quality image of 'Tommy Wards elephant'

and Dunsbyowl's image should be of acceptable print out quality after a bit of stetching.

Waterside Echo,

I remember that photo,

it's one of your relatives in that farm yard scene, with carrages in the background.

I already have plans to use the image in another project, but that's a secret as yet ;-)

This is an unusual one from you here .. Gyrocar

So far we have the following suggestions (as they say on TV, "in no particular order")

I think we need to add a good quality late 50's era tram photo to this list

There are some really brilliant images here, - a fantastic selection, - and more than enough to make a full calendar from.

It looks like the transport calendar is all but sorted, - but the general Sheffield History calendar may need a lot more thought over the selection of images.

A few possibilities for 1950s trams:

An alternative winter shot for the calendar: snowplough 354 at Parkside Road

Neepsend Lane

Three trams, the Scala Cinema and a Pointsman at Hounsfield Road

Bottom of Broad Street

Attercliffe Road: I'm tempted to include this as it took so bl***y long to get the location!

Woodseats. Perhaps this one should be included as 536 was the last (first generation) tram to enter service in Sheffield and was also the last tram to be pushed from Tinsley Depot into Tommy Wards for dismantling in October 1960 :(

I would go with the Woodseats photo, for a few reasons:

Its historical significance as detailed by MA

It was the 1st tram photo I posted to the site

and, of the 6 mentioned above this one is the better quality original.

Will post a few more tonight for discussion.

Just thinking that we shouldn't forget the canal & water transport - we've a few threads on that with a few photos. :)

A few more tram photo's, (all locations are known for these) I have decent originals for these, any thoughts

I would include all of them, but I am biased - I would happily have a calendar with nothing but trams lol

To be a bit more subjective, my preference would be for the two trams at Norfolk Bridge and tram no 10 at the loading island at the top of Fargate.

This seems to be the shortlist

Again in no particular order

Well done Stuart,

and thanks for putting all the selections together

Only a few more photos and the 2011 transport calendar will be sorted as well lol

75 Sheffield Lane Top photo needs 37.284% (approximately) cropping off the bottom, the tarmac does not add to the appeal of the picture.
