Designed by G.B. Flockton. Opened 23 December 1921. Closed 5 July 1952. Used by the department of biochemistry of the University of Sheffield until it was demolished in 1964. (info from http://cinematreasures.org/theater/25778/)

Other Picture Sheffield photos:

Auditorium interior, 1920s

Entrance interior, 1920s

1940s

The most important event to happen at the Scala was, of course, my grandparents' wedding reception in 1931.

I'm told that during its use by the University Hans Krebs had labs in the building.
