Road / Street names

Following on from the thread about road names on the Manor, there have been many name changes of streets and roads over the years. Often this was a matter of avoiding confusion between places with the same name.

An example is Andwell Lane in the Porter Valley, which was originally Andrew Lane, after a local farming family, but was changed to avoid confusion with another lane of the same name elsewhere in Sheffield. (Pre-postcodes of course!)

Another is The Moor, which up to the 1920's was South Street.

Then in 1919 Blucher Street, named after the Prussian General who saved Wellington's bacon at Waterloo, was changed to Mons Street. Presumably it was no longer acceptable to honour a German general, so it remembered the WW1 battle instead.

Some have changed names more than once. In the 1800's, Lambs Pool Lane became Johnson Street, then in 1872 became Janson Street.

Ash House Lane was formerly Workhouse Lane.

But does anyone know the present name of Virgin's Walk, which changed it's name twice, or the intriguingly named Kidnapper Lane?

PM's a Virgin's Walk answer; Kidnapper Lane has me intrigued ... i.e. beaten (for the moment ... he said, optimistically)
