Hi everyone, from sunny Perth in Western Australia.

Recently I found an old book with a sticker inside.

"Woodhouse United Methodist Church, Pleasant Sunday Afternoon Services.

Presented to Kate Marples, 44 belmore Road. Session ending March 1913"

Kate was an great aunt of mine and I am doing our family history.

I can't seem to find this church, now operating.

I am assuming Woodhouse is a part of Sheffield.

THis family also lived at 114 Coisley Hill, Handsworth in 1901.

I can find a Coisley Hill road on a new google map but it seems a very short road.

Don't know England, let alone this place.

Would appreciate any feedback. Thanks, Marie Grech

Hi Marie.

I think this could be the United Methodist Church,

maybe one of our members who has more knowledge of the Woodhouse area

will be along to confirm.

A link to Google Street ... here

Images from Google SV ..... (date stone looks to be 188* ?)

And welcome to Sheffield History :)

Coisley Hill, link to ... FlashEarth

114 may well have been where the roundabout is now.

And a 1930'ish map

Sorry about the black rings,

the map was used for area planning

I can confirm that this is the church and 114 Coisley Hill Woodhouse is most probably was where the roundabout is now but I can remember it before the roundabout was built. I also know a Roger Marples don't know if he is related.

Well found Neddy, Thank you.

Congo Ivory Works was on Trippet Lane in 1893; seems to be a great link between Carlisle name and Ivory, but that's for another time.

The address on the census is only given as Coisley Hill, number 114 is the schedule number on the census.

No house numbers are given.

Well spotted; I read it incorrectly, my mistake; my apologies.

Guest Marie Grech

Thank you all so very much for your generous time and replies.

This has all helped enormously and added to the knowledge about my family.

I appreciate everyone taking time and energy to investigate and share with someone on the other side of the world.

I apoligise for my tardy reply but I am indeed grateful for all these wonderful and informative replies.

Many, many thanks,

Marie
