Am I right in thinking this photo should be mirror flipped to show the correct view?

This looks to me like the senior school back in the 1950s but is the wrong way round. Especially when looking at this aerial view showing the grassy area.

I think that is right as it is Lyn. I went to that School in the 1970's when it was Concord Middle School - you can see the Caretakers house just past it between the 2 schools and the grassy area was at the top end on Acacia Avenue - this would be the view if you stood there looking back towards Wincobank Lane?

Has the building been demolished?? My Mom went to the school back in the late Twenties early Thirties and I know will be upset if it is gone.

It has Mick and this has been built in its place - I think it is called Hinde House School - just to confuse matters!

Having read in the Star about its proposed demolition quite a while ago I made contact with them only to find I was too late to go down memory lane. They had an open day just a few months previously - not publicised in the Star, just locally, and it had already been demolished. I attended the infants and juniors in the 1950s. I loved school then and thought the teachers apart from Mr Lawton were lovely. My teachers were 1st year, Miss Ramage, 2nd Miss Hayward, 3rd Mr Ludbrooke who lived on Bevercotes Rd and drove an old 'wind up' car and 4th Mr Coombes. Mr Coombes was a brilliant teacher.

Just picked up this posting. Think I was in the same class at the same time Lyn. I agree Mr Coombs was a great teacher. I went to Abbeydale Girls Grammar from Shiregreen and so did Mr Coombs daughter. They were fantastic times .Remember going up Wincobank Hill once with Mr Ludbrook to see an eclipse. We all had small pieces of smoked glass to look through. I also remember the headteacher Mr Kent ,he always seemed so tall? Remember the death of King George V1and we all had to listen to the radio in the hall broadcasting the funeral.I was Margaret Godwin in those days .Remember Janet Leach ,Sandra Day Susan Taylor(they had a shop on Heather Rd)Happy Days!!!
