1960/61 Adverts

I've just belatedly discovered this topic, which brings back memories of seeing some of these adverts in (probably) The Star when I was a boy in Sheffield.

It was especially enlightening to discover what Blanchard's did for a living. I thought they were a firm of chimney sweeps. They used to run an advert which showed a drawing of a spotlessly clean, smiling sweep (identifiable by the brushes carried over his shoulder) accompanied by the legend "BLANCHARD'S CLEAN SWEEP SALE". The joke was lost on me at that tender age, and I assumed that they would send a sartorially immaculate bloke round to sweep your chimney, as opposed to the sooty scruff who came and did ours.

I wouldn't bet against our Mr. (or is it Mrs?) Tail posting an image of that advert soon!
