DaveH
Turret Motors were just off glossop road in 70/80s just round the corner from hendersons relish factory used to be an opel dealership moved to ecclesall road about 81/ 82. I think the saville street site used to be bentley bros who moved from one side of the road to other in the late 70s Some of these cars dealerships seem to have had 5 different names / owners in the last 30 years. That seems to indicate that car dealers don't last long, on average only about 6 years. Perhaps we should be recording the addresses of car dealership premises and then tracking who owned them and what they sold over time.
Bayleaf
Lamb's had a place on Ecclesall Rd South, at the top end of the shops opposite Ecclesall Church, but I can't remember what they sold there, and of course Gilders had their VW place at the junction of Psalter Lane and Ecclesall Rd until recently. Bayleaf
Sat here thinking, tapping my head like Winnie the Pooh, Think....Think.... Turret Motors - Eccleshall Road - Vauxhall Pickfords - Eccleshall Road - Rootes Group / Chrysler Charles Clark - Vauxhall (original owners escapes me at the moment!) Weir Head Motors - Austin Rover Beighton Motor Company - Beighton - Austin Rover Pickfords Ecclesall Rd, that't the one I was trying to remember, that would be late 60's to mid 70's I think, the site was later Vardy's and now Evans Halshaw. It might even have been a Kennings at one time, anyone remember? I feel a senior moment coming on....

vox
My brother came round with his collection. Absolute gem of a time capsule. Unfortunately, although he has dozens of brochures in excellent condition (all from around 1978/9) very few have the dealers stamp. Therefore they're not much use for this purpose. Below are the ones that do. ========= Omega Cars Northfield Road, Crookes Citroen - 1978 ======== D.E. Bentley ?01 Shoreham Street Reliant - 1978 =========== Autoways (1931) Ltd. Brown Street Ford - 1979 ========= Fred Wilson - (Advert) Hillsborough Corner, Chrysler, Simca, Dodge. - 1978 =========== He also remembers these: A dealers called SKIPPER Toyota agents - 1978/9 Subaru at Shoreham Steet. Could have been a change of franchise for Bentleys? BMW dealers ? Bottom of Garden Street 1978/
vox
To add a comment on my post above. It's interesting to note that of all the brochures he's got, his favorites, and I must say the ones I found more interesting, are the mundane stuff like the Simcas, Austin Maestro, Morris Marina, Sunbeam Talbot, Fiat 126 etc. rather than all the flashy stuff.
