Old Sheffield Pirate Radio

Sheffield History

Recommended Posts

I used to love the old Sheffield pirate stations

So much better than the current ones to choose from

Asterix and Space broadcasting from the high rise flats at Norfolk Park did the Sheffield city proud, playing some excellent music

At the time it was the only way for youth to access the kind of music they wanted to hear

Fantasy FM and Hardcore FM - Brilliant stations

Great stuff..

Yeah SCR was good

They did so well because they played music that people wanted and could identify with

At the same time Radio 1 still had the old DJ's on there doing their stuff from 20 years ago

and indeed, Sheffield Cable television - mid 70's

Not a pirate station though...all quite legal if underfunded.

I still have a coupla tapes from SCR days. I remember everything was 'white label'.

The adverts for Raves were funny.

I remember SCR well - used to listen to it all the time. Got to know some of the DJ's well. Any one remember Stevie Wander, Special K, Mr. Magic ? Briiliant times early to middle 90's.

I remember the record shop under the front of Sheaf Market

A lot of the DJ's used that shop

I seem to remember that a friend of my daughter had something to do with the pirate radio station, next time I speak to her I'll ask her more about it <_<
