RichardB
Pretty close by my calculations, I think my family home when I was born was "Canton Place" on the map; by that time 30 Birkendale, just off Upperthorpe. Sorry , I got the impression you used to live there with your family.
RichardB
Ah, the infamous "Who Can Tell" - no better reason to use the "Sheffield History Google Search Tool", which is, free, easy to use and infinately better than the standard Search tool. The standard search tool won't let you search for words under four characters long; the Sheffield History Google Search Toll will let you search for anything; place the phrase inside quotation marks to search for the phrase "Who can tell" otherwise it will look for who, can and tell as distinct words and return a load of rubbish. Newcomers are advised to try it from my (and other) signature blocks; no adverts, no sign-up, just click and go - indeed "the breakfast of Champions" !!! Eh ? It's no riddle, if you look at the Wellington, Carlisle Road on the A to Z you will see what I mean. I will leave it as it is but it don't seem to make sense by year. But that is a riddle . . . .
