the SheffieldHistory change-over still hurts personally.

I don't want to sound pessimistic but I'm not holding my breath.

It could happen again :(

Well from me - yours has been a magnificent effort - truly remarkable - worthy of all the praise everyone can send your way - I had it in control, I lost it, I truly did, several people helped and ran with it, as best they could, but, you have made the listing "a World's Best" with your effort and dedication - I did say it would be, way back when; people just thought I was a nutter.

My respect for what you have managed to do; when we meet the wine is on me.

V for Victory.

Will have em done in a few days lol

Thank you Richard that's brought tears to my eyes, I must admit the early years of it got to me a bit with the changing

of pub names then the widening of roads and changing of addresses in the 1800's.

So if you are a nutter then I guess I must be too. I will let you buy that wine.

:o what am I talking, I haven't finished yet.

We also have a Norfolk Arms 159 Upperthorpe Road although no keeper has been found yet.

It must have been before 1854 as that is when the first keeper of the Upperthorpe is posted.

I'm not sure the property is any older than 1851. Must look on my map.

Robert Small, the aforementioned 1854 keeper is listed as a grocer in the 1851 Census.

No mention of a boozer in the 32 pages - though there is a fairly rich seam of "Proprietor of Houses" which I found interesting, Birkendale View existed at this time.

One Daniel Doncaster resident at Upperthorpe.

John Blake, File and Steel manufacturer - presumably not the Master Cutler who died during the Cholera ofthe 1830's - Upperthorpe Villa; could well be his son.

John Livesey, M.A. Perpetual Curate of St. Philips - did he get into some kind of bother ? ...

Upperthorpe Hotel

Just looked in the 1854 Post Office Directory and Robert Small is the keeper of

the Upperthorpe Hotel ,

He must have turned his fruit and veg to wine and cider.

This is a piece of map of 1850 which prints the name of the pubs too.

This suggest the corner building is not a pub at the time.

I have found a picture of the Norfolk Arms pub Upperthorpe Road on Picture Sheffield but is

not the same one as the one on the corner of fives roads. The only place I can suggest by looking at the

picture is it could have been on the same side of the road as Eversley House which belonged to the church.

Maybe the number of the Norfolk Arms is wrong.
