madannie77
Unless I am missing something (quite likely, given my age!) there is little on the forum about Cockaynes. Came across this brief history in a rather unexpected place: The rest of the article is a history of Leonard Cockayne's work in New Zealand, so I have not posted it here. Should anyone be interested the whole document (5.1 MB) can be downloaded from here. Amongst the references are these two. The first one is listed as being written by that good old author "Anon". As he was born in Sheffield, perhaps Leonard Cockayne should be added to the Science & Engineering section of the Famous Sheffield Residents list. madannie77
A nice image of Cockayne's old building on Picture Sheffield: And a not quite so good one of the newer building (it does seem to be quite elusive, except as a background feature) Picture Sheffield, 1965
