Unidentified river, possibly Whiteley Woods area

This looks similar to one of the dams in Endcliffe Park,

the last dam (overfow end) going uptream before the exit gates on to Rustlings Rd.

Would be interesting to hear Bayleaf's comments on this.

Also in the photo is 'Nell's Bar' between Stokes and the Theatre

You can add to that - after 1959

That's when the 105E Anglia was introduced.

So we have between 1959 and 1963

Brook Cottages, Upwell Street, Grimesthorpe, built in 1703

Not sure how this is unidentified, since they have named the Cottages, the Street, the District and the year it was built !

Now you know what we're up against when we visit the library.

I say use your own judgement.

I'll go with that Steve, it's the only one that fits, looking at the cobbled side and the way it tapers, and the way the path drops away to the left. Beyond the fence would be Rustlings Road, except it wasn't built until the 1880's, and according to the details on Picture Sheffield this is a reproduction from a glass slide, so it could be pretty early, perhaps before the road was there?

That's a photo of the back of the cottages - their gardens ran down to Bagley Dike - demolished in the 1950s I think.

Are they taking the Mickey ?

No date given. How is this unidentified ?

http://www.picturesheffield.com/cgi-bin/pi...ff.refno=w00111

I was off the the Sheffield History site when these pictures were originally posted so didn't comment and I'm now trying to play catch-up.

The large building on the photo at the end of the street (right hand side) looks like the side of the the old John Walsh department store. If it is John Walsh's building, then the pub in the forground is the Mulberry Tavern. This old and well known establishment, on the street of the same name. It was demolished some years ago and replaced with the poor imitation you now see abandoned on Arundel Gate.

Hi,

A wild guess !

Is it Campo Lane, looking towards Townhead Street?

Therefore, the jumble on the left side of the picture would be gravestones in the yard behind the Parish Church/Cathedral.

Just a thought.

Looks like it, before the road was widened and the churchyard cut back.

Endcliffe park top pond has cobbles around the edge like in the picture, but the shape looks wrong.

Having had a further look and compared it with some old photos. I am pretty sure it is the top pond in Endciffe park, where it meets Oakbrook/ Rustlings road Junction, the path as it splits is the same now as in the picture, but must have been taken prior to the houses being built on Rustlings Road.

Unidentified Street

Unidentified street, possibly Glencoe Road or Stannington Road similar view to t02545

http://www.picturesheffield.com/cgi-bin/pi...ff.refno=t01678

http://www.picturesheffield.com/cgi-bin/pi...ff.refno=t02545

It's definitely not Glencoe Road, as GR doesn't have any of the 1930's style rounded bay windowd houses. It's pretty much all Victorian villas. There are some houses with squared-off bays, but none of the round bay windows.

I think it's Shiregreen or Southey, as you can see some typical 1930's council properties just below the older properties in the foreground. I'm sure there's a church down at the bottom of the road, with a stubby tower? (Or am I mistaken?)
