Anyone remotely interested in the Sheffield music scene of the 70's and 80's should buy 'Made In Sheffield' which we can recommend as being a fascinating and brilliant watch, and tells the story of Pulp, Heaven 17 and others..

Dianne Lee of Peters and Lee was from Sheffield. They got to number one in 1973 with Welcome Home.

The song was sugar coated sentimental nonsense but as a chart topper, I think Dianne deserves a place on the list.

I can't see the iconic "They Must be Russians" from late 1970s/Early 1980's. One of them left and started a fanzine called NMX and I think ran that printing comapny JUMA.

Saw them quite a few times - high point a song called "Don't Try to Cure Yourself" Don't ask !

Bruce Dickenson is an artist, but if that's allowed, John Valentine Carruthers from Ecclesfield played in Clock DVA and later with Souxie and the Banshees among others.

I was in a couple of bands in the late 70s. One was Reactor. Played around Sheffield and supported UK Subs in Bradford. Second was Molodoy. Played the Limit, Crazy Daisy etc and supported Sham 69 at polytechnic Would be nice if someone remembered us. Can anyone remember the Right Right Bratty s. This is Molodoy posters all over Sheffield at the time? They had the Clockwork Orange Theme.

How about The Harbourkings, who produced 2 excellent CDs "Summercolts" and "The Big Kahuna". Superb guitar pop released on Fire Records, 1990 and 1992 respectively.

Grandadbob signed to Fatboy Slim's southern fried records. Two albums released. Consigned to history though unfortunately

Forgemasters (which I think was Winston Hazel and Rob Gordon)

Sweet Exorcist (which was Richard H Kirk (Cabs) and DJ Parrot)

The start of WARP records. Legendary part of Sheffields elctronic music history.

Can't believe you've not included the best Sheffield band ever - bar none.

The Bitter Suite - formerly The Jigsaw.

There's a new website - www.45cat.com - which has been set up to log all uk 7" 45's. I've started adding records released by Sheffield bands over the years , so this thread makes a good checklist. Head on over and add any I've missed ;-)

My brothers, Simon and David, were in Artery and they were also both in Pulp.

David is now a member of the recently reformed Artery.
