I wonder what the public health inspectors would make of that? <_<

Can't be any worse than the Woolworth's store on the Moor,

who's toilets were in the dining area !

And the ones in the Castle Market,

that are next to food outlets.

Does anyone remember the stall-holders "facilities" in the middle of the old Norfolk Market Hall opposite the Exchange Street entrance. They were surrounded by food stalls and the effluvia was enough to clear your bunged-up nose from 100 yards away. And I thought biological warfare was banned by the Geneva Convention.

Woolworths store on the Moor, - now closed!

Castle Market, - about to be closed once the new market at Moorfoot is complete

Perhaps the public health inspectors had a part in these closures <_<

The toilets at the bottom of Rivelin Valley Road stood where an access road and gate was made to enable the dredging of the confluence of the Loxley and Rivelin rivers recently.

I think they were of post WW2 construction to replace a small gents urinal and toilet which was down a few steps right at the junction of Holme Lane and Rivelin Valley Road.

In the fifties and sixties the old gent's toilet was still in use.

Nowadays it's just a quadrant shaped bit of spare land but you can still see the gate posts in the railings.

I don't think this one ever got a mention

Walking down Abbeydale Road last night i saw a small newsagents which certainly looks like a closed public toilet. It still has an old lamp above the door and is built into a brick wall. It is now 452a Abbeydale Rd.
