Sheffield History
Do you cook as much as your mum used to ? My mum used to cook all the time - apple pies were my favourite But these days nobody seems to cook as much as they used to (obviously not many 'housewives' out there anymore) Then again - even the housewives of today dont' seem to bother cooking (Jeremy Kyle and Co are too tempting for them) .. RichardB
My wife, a Geordie lass, makes the best meat and tater pie ever, she was taught by my Mom; it's a shame it's 140 miles away, this meat and tater pie and yes, we can buy Hendersons in Newcastle, is truely fantastic. Guest coffee cup
I cook what I call Proper Meals everyday. I was taught by my mother but I also went to school when all Girls had Domestic Science which later changed to Home Economics. We were taught how to make almost everything from Pastry, scones, bread as well as how to change fuse wire and a plug, plis how to iron a shirt without getting tram lines down the sleeves. I remember making cornish pasties, scotch eggs, bread, scones, pies, crumbles, soused herrings (awful, but at least we knew how to gut a fish) proper custard, christmas cake, plus many more.
