Guest Jeremy
I'm trying to remember... my little brother helped someone paint one of the clock faces at St Mary's back around 1993/4ish. I can't remember the name of the person, but it may have been Wayne. Jeremy
vox
Stand Corrected But who told VOX, is he Wayne Becket Now it seems there's a new mystery question. Did I know? Did I find out? Did I work it out? Did I have divine guidance? Do I have a friend called Giles Morrison? Or am I Derren Brown?

DaveH
New mystery question 'Who Is or was Wayne Beckett' ? Wayne Beckett was a student at Norfolk School around 1968 - 1974. If you met him you would know who he was as his appearance was quite distinctive. He looked very much older than his age. He went on a school trip to London with me and Stuart around 1969 -70 and while he was waiting in the entrance to Madame Tousards some kids came up to touch him to see if he was one of the waxworks models. He left school around 1974 but may have stayed on working at St. Marys Church until later in the 1970's when the clock finally packed up again. Wayne wasn't the brightest student at school and the maintenance of the clock by himself was way beyond his capabilities and its eventual failure was inevitable. He certainly wasn't there in the 1980's or 90's. As far as I know he was not related to Stan Beckett who ran the fish and chip shop at Manor Top, he could well have lived on Granville Road, although when he was at school I always though he was one of the Park Hill Flats lads, I could be wrong on this though. DaveH
Stand Corrected But who told VOX, is he Wayne Becket I stand correct is the motif on this very dodgy (dodgier than skeets original clock dial) drawing of the Arc de Triomph. Artwork based on that of the artist and mathematician Maurice Escher.

DaveH
Ha ...ha ... Dave I remember it well, take it I'm excluded from answering this one. Once again Stuart0742 got it right (without any inside information) I had thought of banning SteveHB from this one but as I have never banned him before I thought it may be just big a clue. The original picture was in B&W and Steve must have spent a long time "colourising" it for us. Here is his original picture as proof. When St Pauls was demolished in the late 1930's a new church with the same name was opened on East Bank Road, Arbourthorne. This church now also no longer exists, - just a white cross to mark the vicarage, but it is the church where I went to Sunday School in the mid 1960's and where my younger brother was christened in 1961, -taking his name from that of the church. I am sure I was told in my Sunday School days that the Arbourthorne St. Pauls church "inherited" some materials / artifacts / relics from the original St. Pauls pictured above on Pinstone St. Does anyone know anything about this or what the objects in question may have been? DaveH
Ha ...ha ... Dave I remember it well, take it I'm excluded from answering this one. looks like SteveHB has done it again. Not only has he provided the colourised image for mystery clock 4 which was at St. Pauls, Pinstone Street but I have just belatedly turned the page of my Sheffield History 2009 calender, which Steve did most of the work on last December. and here is the picture for June 2009. from this angle the clock is not visible. No takers on mystery clock 5 yet though
DaveH
Your house Looks a bit "put together" if you ask me No, its not another of my collection of miniature clocks, - some of which I have made myself. It is a real clock, - could be considered by some to be a bit dodgy.

But I dunno where it is.
