Guest prophet
Hi, Peter here. I have quite a bit of info on Alice Roebuck (born 1873 in Sheffield. Died ??). I'll keep it short; she married Vincent John Thompson in 1891. Went to America that same year. Had two sons between the years 1891-1896. Samuel Vincent and Albert Edward ( my Grandfather). They came back to England after living in New Jersey for about four years. Vincent John was a grinder by trade. He lived at 400 New Street, New Jersey in those years. Vincent John died in a Sheffield workhouse; (used to be Netheredge Hospital) now a housing development, in 1905 of heart disease, aged 33. Alice remarried in 1915 to an Herbert Hague. He was a soldier, born in 1891. They were married in February 1915, he was killed in France two months later. I have lost track of Alice Roebuck (at this time; Hague). Some names have come up, but no definite link to Alice. Some help from anyone out there, would be gratefully received. Do any of the names strike a chord with anyone???? Peter. David Wainwright
Apologies for re-igniting such an old topic but the name Alice Roebuck struck a chord when I was searching for a family address. I believe I am directly related to her elder sister Mary Ann, born on 3rd September 1871. I am sure the link is sound as the address 20, Egerton Lane is listed as the birthplace of Mary Ann's son, Harry (Jackson), on his birth certificate dated 4th October 1896. If anyone has any information on this or the history of Egerton Lane I would be most interested. From Google maps there does not seem to be much housing left in this area. Edmund
Quite right - the newlywed Thompsons and Hulleys were living with Ma Roebuck at 13 Brook Lane (off Brook Hill) in 1891.

Thank you very much for taking the trouble to find this information.
