We've had this one before. It's the junction of Infirmary Rd (on the right) and is taken from Penistone Rd looking towards Shalesmoor. The Roscoe cinema would have been just out of shot on the right. There is no bridge, just another building. ( The provious shot was from the other direction)

This then and now includes the photo from the topic TSAVO mentions.

3 days plus, £2.00, 0 bids; not bidding.

Which New Inn is this tram-people ?

Does anyone know if that section of track between Infirmary Road and Hillfoot Bridge had ever been used as a regular service route. I can remember in the 1950s it was used for football specials to and from Hillsborough. Also when I was at Hillfoot County School we would regularly go to the City Hall on trams that were waiting for us to board on that track at Hillfoot Bridge. They would take us there, and then be waiting for us on Leopold Street for the return journey. Fifty odd years later on trips out, school kids have to catch the service bus as well as having to pay their own fare, and thats on the rare occasions they get a trip out. PROGRESS????????????

The section of track on Penistone Road between the Infirmary Road Junction and Hillfoot Bridge was opened in February 1903 and had a regular service, iniitally form the City and later a through service from Nether Green via the CIty. This was discontinued in May 1905 and thereafter no regular timetabled service used these tracks, only Football specials, other specials and during the aftermath of the Blitz when the Neepsend route was unavailable.

And also of interest is that the tram is 370, the unique aluminium framed car built in 1931 in Queens Road works.
