I have come across a reference to a famous actor called Sir Henry Ainley (Aug 1879-Oct 1945), and there was a suggetion that he had strong Shefield links. Indeed, for a time I thought he was a product of Sheffield, but then I Googled his name and it emerged that he apparently from Leeds. Why, I wondered, had I been led to believe he was from Sheffield? Was it that he had Sheffield connections?

So we know that the Sheffield link with Sir Henry Hinchliffe Ainley, the famous Shakespearian actor, was that he once worked in a bank in the town, but until we can look up the Sheffield paper reporting the death of John Henry Ainley (of 235 Cemetery Road) in Jan 1901 we cannot ascertain whether there is a link --and we don't really know who John Henry Ainley was!

Thanks, anyway, for responding. I'll keep an eye on it, and if I find any more info that is relevant, I'll post it for the records!
