Urgent help needed - look at this picture - where is it ?

We are currently trying like mad to identify where this picture was taken

It's on the brow of a hill, on the left is a pub/club (stones)

You can just see a bit of the sign and it seems to say either 'ous' or 'our' in the visible bit

We are thinking mabye something like "bellhouse inn" or something like that ?

There also is a building just behind it in the picture that looks like an old bingo hall or cinema or something - with a ball shaped feature on the top - is this a seperate building or an extension to the pub ?

Does anyone have any idea at all ?

It's from the Full Monty movie btw..

Not somewhere I recognise, but the red painted building with the white fancy pommel (extreme top left) should be identifiable.

Looking at the letering, the 'O' seems to be the centre of a semi circle. If this is so it would be the middle letter of the sign. Can't think where there is a hilltop leading to another hill on the otherside. Even assuming the camera is or is near ground level, you still get the impression it's looking up a hill. Could the building be a carpet warehouse?

It looks to be 'OUS'?

I was thinking Bellhouse WMC, before the extention, but the more I look, the less likely it seems (the pitch of the roof is wrong and the ball/top is not there):

Yeah - definitely not that

It looks like the building on the back side of it is an old bingo hall/cinema ?

The building in the background could be part of the pub - or it could be demolished now?!?

Doesn't look like the 'Red House' on Solly Street:

The picture could even be deceptive and the building to the reverse, with the ball top, not attached or next door -could be across a road?

Only say this as looking at the lam-posts they seem to be quite close together and we all know these are yards apart...

Anyway, next one I am not sure of is 'Rose House', South Road:

It's such a shame you can't make out more - or even the sign on the pub.

I was thinking maybe one of the pubs on Darnall Road? Or something similar..

...Oh, what am I doing? I'm stumped... lol

The building with the ball on top is very tall - like the size of a cinema entrance

Think more the old cinema at Hillsborough that's now Netto

Don't forget it's over the hill and down the other side so will tower over the building that we're looking for..

Fox House - Shirland Lane

(it's just off Staniforth Road)

Fox House was an elegant pub at one time. It had been a Tennants house later falling into Whitbreads stable.

This was a lively local in the 60s and 70s with music and pub games, but as the locality was cleared its custommer base declined and it closed around 1995.

For a while it operated as a cafe, but now is closed and fire damaged.

I knew the pub and thought I recognised the picture but couldn't figure out the hill. But looking at the later pictures I think they must have used the railway bridge and a zoom lens.
