Date-Stones on Sheffield Buildings

Stand at the door of the Cottage, look left, just down from end of Camm Street (used to be a small fish and chip shop just to the right of that building).

Thanyou, could not work that one out. Thought the chip shop was still there, and the upholsterers next to it. Camm Street was the terminus for the 95 buses that only went as far as South Road, still expected to see the shop open on the corner of Camm Street as well. W/E.

The shop on the corner closed years ago. There's been work going on in there for years now. Still doesn't look finished.

Next to the newest date up to now.

One of only 4 in the 2000's

Is the fashion returning.

OK, I'm going for a new record on the most recent date stone in Sheffield (until someone finds a newer one!)

Green Homes, Guildford Walk, Norfolk Park 2008

The Green Homes are supposed to be the most energy efficient eco friendly houses in the City.

Previously I have referred to them as the "Ballamoray Houses" due to their garish appearance in bright pastel shades, similar to the houses in the Scotish fishing town of Ballamoray which is also featured in the childrens TV programme with the same name.

You can buy one of these houses, on the Norfolk Park estate, from £44,000 with shared ownership :o:blink::unsure::huh:<_<

I don't think I'll bother! lol

It looks like toy town Dave. :o

Yes, I think that's why the childrens TV programme "Ballamoray" is set in Ballamoray because it looks like a childrens playground.

...and so does this area of the Norfolk Park Estate now

They come in all colours apart from GREEN it seems. :)

My picture only shows one block of these "green houses" but there are others.

There could well be a green one (Green 'Un lol ) somewhere.

I'll try to remember to look out for one next time I go down the park.

Here we are, much more eco-friendly.

This is one of my wifes green houses lol

I put it up in 2002 for her. No date stone to mark the occasion though :(

Would love to see the photos Dickdioxide.

Didn't they demolish the Royal Sheffield Institute for the blind on

Mappin Street? There 's some huge building there now which I

suppose belongs to the Sheffield University.

We have;

1939 Royal Society for the blind, Mappin Street.

down on the list

Is/was there more than one building,

or could it have been extended?

The one that I used to pass every day looked like a 30s type building

but they demolished it a few years ago, it wasn't a large building but

the one that stands in it's place is.

I don't know of any other on there, everything seems to belong to

the University.

Maybe Dick could post us the photographs.

Ahh I see, you got us fooled there Dick, old posts on new buildings.

I was trying to think of some old building still left on Mappin Street

and then I thought I'd look on Street Google .

Well that solves that then, this new building must be one of the few

in the area that doesn't belong to the University.

Well spotted Dickdioxide.
