Some real history here then :

William Howe

Table Knife Manufacturers 37 Hollis Croft

Baine's 1822

Pigot's 1828-9

White's 1833

Change of address/renumbering

Pigot's 1841 79 Hollis Croft

Change of address/renumbering

White's 1849 83 Hollis Croft

White's 1852 83 Hollis Croft

and all before that building; progressing, moving up the hill ...

No mention (yet) of M. Howe - son maybe ?

This is situated above a house on the corner of Taplin road and Beechwood road.

I don't know if it has always been a house or maybe a shop or a pub but can anyone

make out what it says above the date.

I would be interested in the address on this one ukelele lady.

On my grandparents marriage certificate (1926)

My grandfathers address is given as 79 Beechwood Road

My grandmothers address is given as 77 Taplin Road

Obviously not very far apart then.

Both came from large families and lived, as far as I know, in fairly large houses.

At 1st glance it does not look like it has been a shop or a pub before

79 Beechwood Rd is further up the hill away from Holme Ln, this is not covered by Google SV

That's a very odd bit of masonry. It looks as though it's supposed to have pillars extending down from the corners. Really out of place where it is don't you think?

I agree vox, it looks like it's just been plonked on as an after thought.

So both of the places where my grandparents lived before they were married are still standing.

The last house they had at the end of their lives on the Herdings is still standing.

But the ones they lived inbetween, on Leavygreave Road and on Daisy walk are both long gone. :(

Interesting Richard.

My grandmothers maiden name was Lee and so does not match any of the White's directory residents at that address.

Perhaps she was living with someone else or working away from home or in a flat above a shop?

The only previous address I have for her, on her 1903 birth certificate is Lansdowne Road which is not even in the same area of the City.

What a pity she is no longer alive and I can't just go and ask her :(

I need a map please of Parkside Road; surprising since I went to School there ! It seems to be longer than I remembered, or I'm getting Catch Bar Lane confused with what is a continuation of Parkside Road.

Thanks Map-Fairy in advance.

Thanks, I had it in my mind that Parkside stopped at the end of the School. Don't know where that came from.My mistake.
