RichardB
Well at least that would make the Collectors among us smile. Plate 92 (SG43), 1867 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=280298470396 End time: 04-Jan-09 23:16:47 GMT, currently 2 days 8 hours left; £0.99 - no bids (Somebody will explain Plate 77, I'm sure ) The first die was used to produce 204 plates, plus 6 reserve plates. A new die II was also introduced in 1855. This was used to produce 225 plates. Plates 71-225 have the plate number engraved on the stamp and these "penny plates" have the distinction of including amongst their number the famous Plate 77 which you are unlikely to see outside of an exhibition as it is the rarest penny red currently catalogued by Stanley Gibbons at £160,000.00! Well found Syrup ! Found this if it helps ?? http://www.pennystars.com/ -------------------------------- I've heard of active ingredients in medicine being priced at £8 million per litre; how much is one stamp, priced at £160,000 per kilogram then ? (Not the most expensive stamp in the World at that !)
popt
Hi I have read this posting with interest. I have quite a few penny red stamps and like to learn more about them such as types, grading and values etc. Is there a definitive book on the subject that anyone could recommend me to buy?
