Rules for posting into the 'Then & Now Showcase'

1) The Showcase is for images only,

discussion and points of interest should go in the normal '

2) If an image fits into an existing posts category it should be edited into it rather than posted as a new category. This is best done by an Administrator or the person who started off the initial existing post. The best way to do this is post into the existing thread first, where an Administrator can pick it up and move it into the Showcase.

3) Images in the Showcase should include a standard text which includes

Location of the pictures

THEN, date, credit

NOW, date, credit

Variations on the THEN / NOW format are allowed but should carry THEN / NOW headings. Multiple older pictures should be numbered THEN 1, THEN 2 etc in chronological order. To help us with this, when posting images in the original thread for transfer to the Showcase, please try to provide us with this minimum information.

4) Posts which are posted into the Showcase directly which do not meet these rules will be either deleted or moved back to the original “Then & Now” thread by an Administrator.

THEN & NOW SHOWCASE

For the last 2 months Sheffield History has featured a thread entitled "Then & Now - picture pairs which span the years".

This has become a very popular thread and has had many posts and views added. In a relatively short time it has become a pinned thread for easy reference and in the general chat forum members have expressed opinions on wanting this to be a major topic and to be quickly available from the home page.

This has allowed us to develop ideas for this "Then & Now Showcase"

What we want to achieve here is a reference resource of all the Then and Now pictures in a standard presentation format similar to that in the maps section.

For this to happen we have produced a set of rules for posting into the Showcase to maintain the standard presentation format.

Firstly, the original "Then & Now" thread is still here and can be used freely. As well as Then & Now images it features separate images by members and odd suitable pictures for matching with a then / now picture as well as discussion about the pictures and our usual friendly humorous banter. It is intended that the original thread will still be used for this purpose, for discussion and initial posting of any images.

Secondly the new "Then & Now Showcase" thread will only feature images with their location, dates and credits and will be grouped into posts by location so that visitors to the thread can find the pictures they want quickly and easily in an indexed sort of way.

I got the original idea for "Then & Now" after posting an old panorama of Sheffield in the recent developments thread and SteveHB matched it with a modern one. So to start the Showcase off and to illustrate how its format should appear here is that very first "Then & Now"
