This is the photo of a building at the top of Palm Street ,Walkley. As you can see it has a Wards sign above it. Does anyone know if this was a pub and if so what was it called?

I think this is 386 South Road.

In 1901 and 1919/20 Directories this is occupied by Rowland Hill, grocer.

However, in this PictureSheffield image the goods on the pavement make it look like a junk shop!

On the screens in the library it may be possible to read the sign over the door.

I remember going in there too, it was in the late 60s, a beeroff shop.

My friend use to live in Palm street and when we had a night in we would go to the beeroff and buy a small

bottle of sherry which they sold draught out of a little wooden barrel.

Yuk I couldn't drink that now, there's better things.

The readable part of the sign above the door says 'ROWLAND HILL'.

The tram car was apparently built in 1901 and converted to a double-decker in 1906.
