Not an advert but another name over a building,

the second word 'shown in my photo' has been changed at some time.

The first word in the full name 'not shown' is an area of Sheffield, any gusses.

It's Meersbrook Tannery on Chesterfield Road.

So would it be Meersbrook Buildings?

Yes vox, it is now Meersbrook Buildings.

Stuart0742 pm'd me the correct answer,

I'm sure that tsansit also knew it,

and Waterside Echo having noticed it off the bus,

failed to mention if he knew the original use of the building.

There are a pair of name stones on the building and

the tannery once owned by Francis Colley & Sons

covered an area of two and a half acres.

Chesterfield Rd, looking up Valley Rd.

127, Sharrow Lane.

Looks like GOWERS peeping out above the more recent woodwork.

Google Streetview

The close up of the ghostly Gowers sign seems to have some even more ghostly writing superimposed on it.

On closer inspection this appears to be a Google 2009 copyright watermark lol

Well spotted Dave. I've never noticed one of those before, are they on all their streetview stuff?

I have come across it on quite a few but they do seem to be quite discrete and unobtrusive, unless of course, as in this case, it is right across the particular bit you are interested in looking at.

Not quite an advertisement but while I was on "Then & Now duty" today I saw this over the entrance to Hawleys on Holme Lane.

.

I believe that would be the entrance to Hirst and Sweetings Coach company, think they became part of Sheffield United Tours, will stand corrected if that is all wrong

It has said "Coach Entrance" up there for many years.

But what about that white bit in the middle that appears to be broken with a number 14 on it (the address? 14 Holme Lane?)

Whats that bit all about?
