Mystery Location

This photo is of one end of a fairly long walkway/footpath,

it does have a name.

Where is it and what's it called?

A walkway or footpath?

It is gated for security at one end and is clearly wide enough and tall enough to drive a vehicle down.

It looks more like a private (because its gated) access road to, for example, a works yard or business unit.

Is it only open at certain times?

I don't suppose your going to show us a picture looking the other way, showing the other end of walkway as an extra clue though :(

Do we know what it is?

It's described as a footpath or walkway

It looks like a private driveway

It has a NAME as though it was a proper street.

All a bit confusing

I have no idea whether or not access is reatricted at certain times,

but there is a sign at the side of the gates.

Thanks for the extra clue there Steve, it confirms what I was saying

Its a public walkway, it is also private property and it has security installed

Still no idea where it is though :(

But only a small section of the mystery walkway may be restricted Dave,

the rest is free to use at any time.

Hope that helps,

;-)

That's not London Road in my photo.

OK, so its NOT London Road IN YOUR PICTURE

But is London Road at the other end, behind the photographer?

You were sort of "cagey" and guarded in this reply to Stuart so I think there may be something in this London Road idea.

Does it for example run from London Road towards Cliffe Street / Cemetry Road area?

Whilst members are thinking about Steve's mystery, here is an easy one.

I don't think it has been posted before, I took it for the date-stones topic, but will post it here 1st

I still haven't got a clue on Steves mystery walkway.

OK, foundation stone, laid by the Lord Mayor in 1928

So a public building in Sheffield which opened late 20's or possibly early 30's (depending on how long it took to build and get open)

Not really narrowed it down much as quite a few Sheffield buildings date from this time.

The clues are in the photo, that applies to both Steves and mine :)

Does the inclusion of Percy Sillitoe's name mean we're looking for a police building somewhere?

Not a police building

OK then, how about a law court, a prison (has Sheffield got one?) or a place of justice.

Just something generally to do with crime and punishment perhaps?

No crime or punishment at all

No crime or punishment at all

OK then, with a police officers name on how about a building that has to be licenced by the police for some purpose?

A public house / bar / gambling casino / betting premises / dance hall / concert venue...

that sort of a place.

just random guesses now Dave :P

I think there have been 4 of these in Sheffield City Centre (may be wrong), if there have been 4 this building would be No.2 chronologically.

(Well there are 4 still standing)

This was supposed to be an easy one whilst members thought about Steve's mystery

Just remembered I forgot to take a full view of this building, sure there will be plenty on PictureSheffield
