Mystery Location

Not hard this one,

hopefully it will fill up, so it can be stocked come Summer

Why did they dig that hole? Without, hopefully, giving away the location, it's near a pub right?

No idea with the hole, but the background is bugging me, The leeters/numbers in the left background seem strange.

At the side of the Earl of Arundel and Surrey on Queens Rd

Yes your right Stuart, the funny letters in the background was J.E.James cycles.

I also believe 'ayfer' knew the right answer.

It was dug out near on twelve months ago to put in foundations

for flats.

Then it started to fill with water & for some strange reason,

the work came to a stand still.

Not so much a mystery location (although you can make it on if you want) as just a Mystery full stop.

I was working opposite these houses today and wondered why they both have nautical names. The names are carved into the stone, so are original. The houses are identical in build. By the numbers, the 2 new houses have replaced 3 old ones. There's not enough room for three more detached, so there must have been a small terrace of three there.

I was intrigued enough to knock on the doors to see if they knew, but no one was home. I'm back there for a few hours tomorrow so I'll try again.

Any thoughts?

Have a guess at where it is if you like.

I'll bet that isn't the not so secret tunnel linking Sheffield Manor House to the Castle lol

No It's NOT! Gramps he he

But now you mention secret tunnels,

I do happen to know of one 'that to my knowledge' has never been disclosed,

but that can be added to the Tunnels Topic at a later date.

Unfortunately there only seems to be you guessing.

When I was cut off by the server a week or so back you said in the boozer, quote "Well your'e not missing much, - it's pretty quiet on the site at present, we need to do something to get members posting like the mystery location did"

Since getting my connection restored I am amazed at how quiet it is, - just before Christmas there were 3 or 4 mystery locations running concurrently and loads of people chipping in with suggestions and answers and even offering new challenging locations, but now....

I think mine is the only one still open, so I'll tell you what, you post the next mystery challenge and then I'll post the answer to this one.

That way at least there will always be 1 mystery location open for people to have a go at rather than letting the thread become totally dormant.

OK Stuart, now that you have given in and activity in this thread has picked up again and people are starting to post, here is the answer.

It was the Heeley & Sheffield house on the corner of Hollinsend Road and Gleadless Road, Viewed here from the City side on Gleadless Road.

Wrong answer received :(

'Right Then monkey'

I said it was a hard un, so lets add a clue.

The photograph below has seven hidden letters,

find all the letters and arrange them into a surname.

Take a look at the other clue in the photo

and bobs your uncle.

I will even make it easier by marking one of

the seven .. :)

Sheaf bank works (now Business park) on Prospect Rd

CT Skelton & co

Well done vox!

can I ask if it was the clues that helped,

or did you know the place?

As the yard in Sheaf Bank Works is in an out of the way area.

Prospect Rd (out of view) in the background.

Combination of

Got the name from the letters

Been round there a few times

Knew somewhere in the back of my mind about Skelton and co being there

Sort of recognised the security fence

Put 18 and 23 together and had a stab.
