SteveHB
Sadly the bridge is closed to cars now, they have put measures in the end to only allow cyclists over. Are we talking about the same bridge Andrew? https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=sheffield&ll=53.384535,-1.416598&spn=0.000402,0.000873&hnear=Sheffield,+South+Yorkshire,+United+Kingdom&t=h&z=20&layer=c&cbll=53.384559,-1.416672&panoid=SC3EAAOzCySIMiMBt5j7QQ&cbp=12,33.28,,1,2.

Calvin72
Did this one slip through the net? Too easy? Too obscure? I would have thought the date says 1886, but could it be 1836?

A relative of mine used to live in the top flat in the building next door. He told me they lived in Green-hill and got most upset when I insisted on calling it Grennel. madannie77
Were you following me MA? I don't think so unless they are old photos - I am safely ensconced in Carlisle at the moment and I haven't walked along Crookesmoor Road since December 2010. The answer came to me via the interweb and the Ramblers Association I wish I was in Sheffield - I could do with an aimless wander around my city at the moment. vox
The safety shutters suggest the rear of shops with flats above. Is this close up of some writing a clue? - Lord Of The Rings, Magi Nation. (The writing is on the inside, I've mirrored it to make it readable) It put me in mind of here on Cross Burgess Street, rear of Pinstone Street (obviously not the same place) but similar sort of location and age. vox
The wheelybin suggests that it is on street level, but there is a level below, so somewhere with basements ? What does the red and white sign say ? Possibly "Money G----"
