Found guilty at the assizes, with recommendation to mercy, and sentenced to death. Sentence commuted on the ground of insanity. *The articles seem to consistently call him William John. The charge was changed to manslaughter and he was transported to Australia. He got his ticket of leave after around 11 years and when he got his ticket of freedom he went to Tasmania.
