Fatality Through "Chaffing" ....

Not in Sheffield but "what's this about then?"

OED:

Chaff (v.)

To banter, rail at, or rally, in a light and non-serious manner, or without anger, but so as to try the good nature or temper of the person ‘chaffed’. (A word or sense which probably arose as cadgers' slang, and is still considered slangy, and usually apologized for by inverted commas.)

Solomon Stenton was my 3 x great grandmother's cousin. The charge was changed to manslaughter and he was transported to Australia. He got his ticket of leave after around 11 years and when he got his ticket of freedom he went to Tasmania. There the trail goes cold.
