Many Thanks Under the heading Making Files in Sheffield ,posted today by Dunsbyowl, read about The FitzalanWorks.It states that there was a wharf on the canal where shipping was done with Hull. Maybe under or next to Ranskill Court on current maps. I remember the wharf at the bottom of Tinsley Park road. I used to watch the barges there. Halfway up TP Rd was an acid works and trucks would deliver big glass vats of acid. The fumes used to pit the windows and stain them brown at Coleridge rd school. The pub on TP rd was the Friendship Inn. There was also a corner shop on March st. Grandad used to tell me not to get near the barges as someone had fallen in and got mangled by a propeller but think this may have been to scare me to stay away from the canal. I was about 5 or 6 at the time 1954. Just had a walk down Tinsley Park rd via street view. If anyone local has the time and a camera there are buildings still there that I remember in the early 50’s Are there any threads about Coleridge rd school? Can't find Chippenham Street, but there is a Chippingham Street adjacent the canal at Attercliffe.
