This bottle of Coronation beer has been in my brother-in-laws house since he was a child.

He says his father and the rest of the miners where presented with these at the Coronation

but he doesn't seem to know which Coronation.

His father was born in 1900 so would have worked through 2 Coronations and his son seems to remember

seeing this bottle when he was very young maybe before 1953.

Is there anyway we can tell how old it is and just for the inquisitive ones it has never been opened, it still

has the original beer inside.

"In common with the other clubs breweries the York Clubs Brewery was started after WW1 by a club who thought the brewers were ripping them off (1924), as the name suggests this one was formed by the York branch of the CIU. They originally rented a defunct brewery (R Cattle of Pocklington) , eventually building their new brewery at Huntington in 1933, I must go and see if there's anything left one day soon. They amalgamated with the Leeds & District Clubs Brewery and changed the name to Yorkshire Clubs Brewery in 1939. The trading area was all over Yorkshire except the Cleveland area, plus bits of Lancs, Derbys, Notts and Lincs, Frank says supplies have now (1972) commenced to the Midlands. In addition to the 6X, 4X and light bitter, Wittenden described they did a dark MILD, best MILD and four bottled beers. They were taken over by the Northern Clubs Federation Brewery Ltd in 1973" - pubsgalore.co.uk

So after 1939 then, according to the above.

It must be the 1953 Coronation then. After all these years I bet the contents taste

like a real bottle of " bitter ".

I can remember Tetley's creating a celebration bottled beer for Charles and Diana's wedding (1981),

it was more of Barly Wine than beer, a bit like Gold Label, and near to it in strength.

Good Morning All

I hope you don't mind me posting these pics, it's a bottle I dug up a few years ago from some local woodland, when I found it was full of mud & sludge.

It's Marked JF Eardley, Sheffield

I'd be interested what it was used for, and how old it is.

Apologies for the state of the bottle, not sure of the best way of cleaning it without damaging it.
