dunsbyowl1867
I took these photos about 15 years ago - do you call this area Portobello? It was no longer being used for worship and building work was taking place so that the university could use the building for other uses. My great grandparents were married here in 1862.
Bayleaf
I took these photos about 15 years ago - do you call this area Portobello? It was no longer being used for worship and building work was taking place so that the university could use the building for other uses. My great grandparents were married here in 1862. The university have converted the building and it now houses a lecture theatre and student accommodation. It must be pretty well unique as a Hall of Residence! Guest tsavo
The churchyard was the site of a murder in the early 1960s. I walked past it on my way home to Crookes on the night it happened and I always walked past it a little faster after that.

Guest plain talker
Inside St George's: Taken in around 1981, just before the church closed. Jeremy That's a really interesting photo. TY for sharing it. I was struck - even knowing the architect was the same person, how similar that shot is to the "worship area" in St Mary's, Bramall lane. One could be looking at the same church in both instances. I also notice the Xmas tree in the bottom left corner...

DaveH
Both my parents grew up in the parish of St. Georges and were married there in 1950. Between the end of the Second World War and my dad being called up for National Service (so between 1945 and 1947) when my dad was about 16 or 17 he played for St. George's football team. Here is the 1946 -7 team. Dad is the goalkeeper, - the little guy at the back.
Guest laural
I don't live in Sheffield now but was christened in St Georges in 1951 and my elder brother went to St Georges school. On a coincidence i was nursing at eastbourne district general hospital in the late 80's and looked after a gentleman called Mr Thraves who was a headmaster at St Georges school
