POPPYCHRISTINA
If you look on various sites they say that the Bass trademark is the oldest registered trademark in Sheffield. It looks quite modern but who knows? Sorry , meant to say this-- Bass took over Stones in the 1960s
SteveHB
Yes Stones was first taken over by 'Charringtons' then shortly after by 'Bass' in 1968, guess that's when 'Bass Charringtons' came about.

neddy
Not much left of it was there, opposite side of the track from this box was a sort of fairy castle carved into the rock presumably by the navvies. knightstemplar
Has anyone looked at the arches leading from Norfolk bridge? Not a good photo but gives you an idea Fred Mulley road viaduct Norfolk bridge itself is stone faced but the viaduct arches leading away from it are brick, not lot of detail and not too big. Looks promising?

Over the last two weeks I have been walking MILES trying to find the site of your photo. A few of my photo,s .I must have taken at least 200. The good news is I was able to take photo,s of pubs. The bad news is -it isn,t Wadsley. Went in the Rawson Springs Pub.I thought that I had pulled with all the women smiling at me. It was only when I went to the toilet that I saw the amount of leaves etc that I had in my hair from furtling through the undergrowth.Could have done with Doctor Stanley. pgmetcalf
hey, like the photo. That's the bridge over the line just North of Neepsend Station, which can just about be seen in the distance. Out to the right were some elevated sidings in dark brick accessed by a steel road bridge, but these sidings were pulled down in the last 2 years. Guest bus man
Think they were pulled down before that
neddy
There was a rail link bridge accross Parkwood Road to the coal drops, that would have been taken down in the late 50's? Guest skeets
It would be interesting to know who/what brewery/s ditributed 'Bass' around the year of the photo, it would be 'Bottled Bass' " I think" so who distributed it, was it just 'Stones' or was there another local brewer who had the franchise around that time? l think Tennants distributed Bass also . skeets
Guest skeets
Another Battersby photo to decipher. This is a photo of my Grandad Walt (he's the one leaning on the post with a cigarette in his hand) taken when he was on strike (he was a lorry driver all his life). The photo appeared in 'The Picture Post'. Can anyone identify the location and possibly the year it was taken? Is it near the Wicker? Was it taken in the 40's? I know Walt drove for a brewery around that time. This has to be the best site for specialist knowledge of Sheffield, so thinking caps on folks please! `TexxUK` This may be the arches that Henry Matthews timber merchants rented one of them the rd continued to Effing ham rd then further arches continued past Effingham rd skeets,By the way did you have any connection with a family of Battersby that lived on Sedan st pitsmoor skeets
