Sheffield History
THE PENNY BLACK LOCATION Pond Hill, Sheffield, South Yorkshire S1 2BG INFORMATION Located on Pond Hill just up from the legendary Old Queen's Head, the Penny Black has been a feature of Sheffield life for many years. No longer benefitting from the footfall and passing trade of old - the Penny Black is now (possibly unfairly) tagged as being either a rough pub, or notorious for trouble from football fans (usually Sheffield United) on matchdays. Guest coffee cup
Went in hear a few times, although many years ago (over 23 years) I thought it was ok, toilets were ok, which is how many women judge a pub. It was handy if you had just miised your bus, as it was very close to the bus station, even if you just needed the loo (better than the ones downstairs in the bus station then !!). Guest echo
It is also unique in the fact that it is the only pub in the UK which is built into a Royal Mail building.

eldomsmith
The building behind the old Post Office at 5:26 was part of the old GPO buildings in the days when GPO did telephones as well as mail. In here somewhere was the old telex exchange. Also there was a main distribution frame with private circuits from around the city centre

There was previously a better pub a bit further down Pond Hill, the Lyceum, pictured on this thread by RLongden
