RichardB
November 1894 Aston Villa versus Sheffield United (played at Perry Barr) The wind was bitter and sleet came down mercilessly though the first half. After the interval men collapsed to be carried away to hot baths and stimulants. Even Foulke (the gigantic United keeper, just arrived in the side) succumbed. "Several of the Villans" reported Ernest Needham "did what playing they could in great coats, and one used an umbrella". Remarkable !
