It may have closed sometime in the early 1930s, and later it was run by Beatrice Easy as a lodging house.

It was a good pint too. The landlord was a dark haired tall upright man of serious demeanour. Me, dad and my uncle whiled away a couple of leisurely hours in there on a saturday evening while mum and auntie went down to the birley bingo club. So good was the ale that I often tried to steer my mates into there rather than head down into the city centre, but to little avail. Sadly now its flats, but happy memries of my first soujourns into the adult world.

Welcome to the site and thank you for the information you have supplied, we will update the main record. Despite our best efforts the Pubs thread is actually poor when it comes to Census information - anyone find a Publican/Victualler/Beerhouse keeper we would appreciate a posting, our 12,500 known Publicans come from Trade directories and newspapers in the main. You don't know how welcome your posting is Joy - because it means other people are looking and are willing to post the information they find; even people you are not related to are welcome additions. Anyone finding a Pub in the census; either check against our lists or post the information (Census images gratefully received). Great that you've posted pictures of the place too, Many Thanks. We started with the aim to make this listing the best of what there is, I think we achieved that and now, with help from people like you, we aim to make it better, with more pictures (links only to SheffieldHistory please) and more accurate information than is available anywhere else. I've been at this for 20 months or so and I've never come across Charles Cooke - he must have slipped though the trades directories - so 1 point to you
